Performance Composition - Feb 21 & 22
Studio 360, Gopalapuram, Chennai

"You cannot create results; you can only create the conditions in which something might happen" (Bogart 2001: 124)
How can we take an idea and transform it into a theatre performance? How can we focus on the elements of performance creation to create the overall mood and ambience for the audience? How can we craft a compelling Mise en scène

Using Anne Bogart +Tina Landau's viewpoints, the workshop will be crafted to address viewpoints of Space (Shape, Gesture, Architecture, Relationship) and Time (Tempo, Duration, Repetition and Kinesthetic response) and how varying these concepts can create unique performance concepts.

Day 1: Workshop participants will explore and experiment with the concept of space and how space can be a starting point to create work. The session will also explore playing with architecture and how that can be a starting point to create work. Expressive gesture will be a critical part of the workshop, with a focus on layering material with sounds, text and movement.

Day 2:  Participants will be introduced to performance directives and ways in which performance material can be generated. The second half would focus on Performance composition. Participants will integrate all the elements from day 1 into composing performance.
