How have board games and outdoor games shaped human behaviour through time? How have games helped formulate strategies of war ? How have games of today kept alive the stories of the past? Re-play, a performance duet inspired by traditional Indian games, explores the dimensions of game play, through powerful storytelling, movement and contemporary theatre.
Re:play, premiered in London and showcased across multiple cities in India, crafts an experience for the audience, inspired by the sounds, rhythms, patterns, structures, colours and narratives that traditional Indian games lend themselves to.
The performance explores games and their relevance through a journey that evokes themes of mythology, history, contemporary events, personal memory and Indian folklore.
From the concept of deceit in a game of dice, to the context of war through a game of chess, from the physical struggle in a game of Kabaddi to the quick wit in a game if Tigers & Goats, the performance explores themes, moments and slice of life events based on games popularly played across India.
This 80 minute journey asks the audience to be present in unique ways, in ways that are immersive, interactive and intimate. The audience become part of the performance and in their doing, the performance gains a new meaning.
